Music Families Exhibition
Location: Singapore Tyler Print Institute
Drawn by WILSON SHIEH
Carved by SHOICHI KITAMURA
I visited the gallery and it was wonderful to personally experience how the artworks were being made as seen by the demonstrations carried out by the artists themselves. The artworks are quirky with the drawing of human bodies as musical instruments and finely detailed- from the strands of hair, outlines, and lines of shadows.
The traditional method of printing, Ukiyo-e, is simply amazing after seeing how much skill was needed to carve, ink and print the designs, turning the interestingly quirky portrayals of human bodies as musical instruments into beautiful, colourful creations.
It was a good experience to be there and I enjoyed the exhibition very much. Hope to see more of such works!
